MPS Social Workers are currently recruiting a Forensic Mental Health SW for work in Bridgend council.

JOB PURPOSE:
To provide assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and aftercare to mentally disordered offenders or those patients requiring specialist forensic services within the South Wales Forensic Mental Health Service. Practice is allied to secondary services and Care and Treatment planning under the Mental Health Measure (Wales) 2010 and Part 3 of the Mental Health Act 1983 (2007), Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014.

The multi-disciplinary team approach allows for the skills of a variety of professionals to be utilised in a flexible and co-ordinated way.  The social work contribution is an integral component of this service.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES:

  • Working with the legislative, regulatory and policy framework and complying with the Division’s Performance Management Framework.

  • Under the direction of the Social Work Team Manager and/or Senior Practitioner to hold a complex and high risk caseload and contribute towards the multi-disciplinary approach at all stages of the patient / client’s involvement in South Wales Forensic Mental Health Services, through the care pathway of admission, treatment, rehabilitation and resettlement, providing aftercare in the community setting and contribute to multi-disciplinary packages of care.

  • Assisting in the continual development of the Forensic Social Work service.

  • Liaising and communicating with community-based services across the regional network, including housing and employment services, promoting the forensic service throughout the catchment area.
  • Working closely with patients and their family and / or carers throughout the treatment phase and beyond, providing aftercare in the community setting and contributing to multi-disciplinary packages of care.

  • Provide comprehensive reports as necessary for Peer Review conferences, Care & Treatment Plan reviews, Mental Health Review Tribunals and Hospital Managers Hearings under the guidance of the Social Work Team Manager and/or Senior Practitioner.

  • Working under the Mental Health Measure (Wales) to ensure that Mental health services are delivered to patients, families and carers and they focus on individual needs. Good understanding of Part 1, 2 of the Act 2010.

  • Contributing to service delivery, practice standards and staff performance.

  • Maintaining timely and adequate case records.

  • Maintaining and developing professional practice consistent with registration by the Social Care Council as a social services practitioner.


Grade 11


  • To undertake more complex, high risk cases which may include court / mental health review tribunal attendance.

  • Supervision of Social Work Students and other junior staff.

  • Provide advice and guidance to less experienced social workers.

  • Lead joint working with less experience Social Workers in complex cases.

  • Carry out the duties of Approved Mental Health Professional relating to the statutory requirements of the Mental Health Act 1983 (as amended 2007), including the role of Social Supervisor linked to the Ministry of Justice.
